Chalobah determined to shine as England U21 take on Austria

Nathaniel Chalobah: Lining up trip to Israel this summer

Chalobah has spent his debut season in professional football on loan at Watford where his impressive displays earned a call up from U21 boss Stuart Pearce.

He has won three caps so far, and is hoping to be in the line-up for Monday's friendly with Austria in Brighton.

The Young Lions head go into the match unbeaten since November 2011 and they are on a run of eight straight wins without conceding a goal.

Such form puts them amongst the favourites to win the title in Israel this summer - something Chalobah, who won the Under-17 European Championships three years ago, believes they are more than capable of doing.

"We've got characters," he said. "Everyone wants to be successful and be able to say they have won the U21 championship.

"I think at the moment we're just taking it as it comes, taking it game by game and until the squad comes out we will keep our head down.

"We've got quite a bit of a record at the moment. We've got a lot of characters in the changing room and want to keep maintaining our standards and keep doing well.

"It would be a big, big achievement to go to the tournament. Playing for the Under-21s is a big achievement on its own but I think going away to Israel would show how well my season has been going."

"I just want to keep doing well and hopefully get in the good books of the manger.

"We're obviously going to come out against Austria and try to put in a good performance again.

"I think all the lads are ready and prepared for the game so hopefully we get the win."

One man who will not be in action on Monday is Wilfried Zaha - man-of-the-match in the 3-0 win over Romania on Thursday.

He is unavailable to face Austria due to pre-scheduled dental work but there could be a debut for Leicester defender Michael Keane, on loan from Manchester United.
